Context & Goals

Problem

Our connected devices (computers, smartphones, washing machines, fridges, TVs, etc.) are constantly generating personal data. Today, however, it's hard to understand which data is being collected, by whom, and for what purpose, and to have simple control over permissions and sharing.

Objectives

  • Give users a clear overview of the data generated by their devices.
  • Allow users to manage permissions with plain language.
  • Make decisions fast: allow, limit, revoke.
  • Ensure transparency with easy-to-read activity logs.

Design choices

  • Dashboard with data status, alerts, and quick actions.
  • Dedicated sections for Devices, Data categories and Permissions.
  • Consent requests explained with real examples and validity timers.
  • Activity log to see what happened, and from which device/app.

Approach

What I did

  • Mapped connected devices and main data categories.
  • Defined consent flows (allow/limit/revoke) that are clear and fast.
  • Designed activity logs and clear notifications.
  • Structured sections: Dashboard, Devices, Data, Permissions, Activity.
  • Clean UI and plain language to explain each permission.

Target users

Privacy-conscious users - want to understand and control in a few taps.
Power users - want granular rules and shortcuts.
Families - need simple settings and clear supervision.
